Hi Noreen,

do you know what the correct MIME type is for SMART Notebook files? I'm having this problem too.

Cheers,

Pete

Yea Harvey! I couldn't believe it when Harvey started talking about the cover pages being all about the standards and teacher objectives. Whenever I view lessons I always have to get to the 2nd or 3rd page before I am really able to preview it. I do not have time to read all of the teacher notes and objectives when looking for a lesson that I can use. The first page past the cover page is what usually grabs my attention. If it is good I take a second look. If not, I don’t waste my time. We were given a district cover page template to use whenever we make a new lesson. The good thing about it is it makes you think about how worthwhile your lesson really is. However, I think that I will start putting the "cover page" at the end of my lessons. I can always link them to the new attention grabbing first page. Love your podcasts!

Hi CTeacher,

You can email Harvey directly for hints with the 12 brats of Christmas.

Cheers!

Jim

Hi Noreen,

Thank you so much for your comment. The problem is indeed related to the MIME setting. However, this isn't something that's easily fixed by the home user and it gets very low attention at the IT department. I'm also trying to get as many people over to Firefox browser as possible. I absolutely hat IE. :o)

Jim

Please consider providing the the answer or additional hints for the Twelve Brats of Christmas. I am feeling very challenged since I don't even know where to begin.. This happens more than I would like to admit. Thanks!

The problem you have with Internet Explorer downloading Notebook files as zipped files may be able to be fixed. My students were having the same problem at the beginning of the year getting the correct format for my SMART notes if they used Internet Explorer. (Personally I prefer to use Firefox, too, but a lot of my students don't have it.) It turned out that the server didn't have the correct mapping for the MIME type for SMART Notebook files, so it did the default...pushed it out as a zipped "text" file. I contacted our IT person and it ended up being a simple two-minute fix on the server. It may be worth it to contact the administrator of the site and see if they can add the MIME type for SMART Notebook files.

Thanks for the fun resources for Christmas!
