Jim Hollis and Harvey Almarode return with episode four of Get SMART with SMART Boards. Harvey's theme for this week is "manipulatives" and he not only shares a wonderful website called The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives, he also shares a Notebook file containing a collection of manipulatives that teachers can use with the SMART Board.
Jim provides listeners with a brief overview of the new Smart Exchange that has just been released in beta by Smart Technologies. The new Smart Exchange allows teachers to find and share resources for the SMART Board quickly and easily. Jim also shares a fun Notebook file based on the game of Tic Tac Toe. Teachers can customize the game and can even save their customized games to the Gallery.
Finally, Jim and Harvey talk about the Smart Screen Capture tool and discuss how it can be used effectively in creating Notebook applications.

- Notebook File Downloads: If you experience problems opening the Notebook files, make sure you Save the file instead of Opening the file. If the file extension gets changed to <.zip> after you save the file, rename the file so the extension is <.notebook> and you should then be able to open the file using Smart Notebook. Switching to the Firefox browser may also help.

I saw a post from an earlier episode so I went back and opened with Firefox. The only ones that would not open are the Gettysburg Address, it comes up with a page error, and Function Man which asks me what program I want to use to open the file.

Hi Debbie,
I wish I knew why you were having problems putting the latest episode your Nano. I just tested the podcast and it seems to work fine. Try downloading it again to your Nano and let me know what happens. The video is not part of the podcast so that's not why it's not working. The video is only available on the podcast website.
Keep me posted

Hi Harvey and Jim! I have been loving the podcasts! I have the first three on my ipod and have learned something new and interesting in all of them. I am, however, having trouble putting the fourth one on my ipod(an old nano, before they supported video). After looking at the above resources you listed, it appears that there may be a video showing how to use the smart screen capture tool, is this a part of the podcast? If so, I guess I answered my own question, and figure I better ask for a new Nano that supports video! Thanks for all of your hard work, I always look forward to your blogs and creative ways you use Notebook10 and the SmartBoard!
